Scene from the Alexander Sarcophagus (so named for its decorative carving, not whom it intombed). It depicts Alexander the Great wearing a lionskin headdress during the famous battle of Issus, where he decisively defeated the Persian army of Darius III. The sarcophagus is believed to be carved for King Abdalonymus, who was made king of Sidon by Alexander in 332 BC.
