St. Simeon, a hermit monk from Aleppo (in modern Syria), moved here in the 5th century to escape attention for the miracles he had been performing. Other monks followed him, and they created living space by carving large holes into the chimney columns. A chapel dedicated to St. Simeon can found here. |
