Plaza de Armas, also known as Plaza Mayor, is Lima's city center, as designated by Francisco Pizarro in 1535 during the founding of the city. The building on the right is the Municipal Palace, on the left is the Palace of the Union. Like the Plaza Mayor in Madrid, this square witnessed bloodshed during the Spanish Inquisition.
