The meridian line inside the Basilica Santa Maria degli Angeli, built on the site of the tepidarium of the Diocletian Baths. The meridian line was designed by Francesco Bianchini in 1702 to measure the day of the year. The sun shines through a small hole and crosses the line at noon every day. The crossing occurs at the ends of the line during the Solstices and at the exact middle during the Equinoxes.
